What Training Group Should I Join?

The training group you should join depends on what your goals are for the year. No matter which group you choose to join, everyone is welcome at our weekly socials and events!

- If you're a sprinter or middle distance runner, join Martin Cook's group. They train at the indoor and outdoor tracks, with the main goals of hitting PBs and competing at BUCS Indoor (that we host in Sheffield) and BUCS Outdoor championships. If you're looking to get into sprinting in a less competitive capacity, come along to our GIAGs, and we can give you some information on our new social sprint group, new for 2025/26

- If you want to compete at cross country and/or road races, join Sammy Rashid's group. They train once a week on each of road, track and grass, mainly aiming for BUCS Cross Country in early February.

- If you usually run XC in winter and track in summer and are in two minds, it is a case-by-case decision. Martin's group is more speed based and tailored to up to 800m athletes who would choose the Indoor season over XC, whereas Sammy's focusses on endurance. Message us on Instagram if you have any questions about this!

- Field athletes train with independent coaches in the local area. Contact us on Instagram if you are interested in joining a group and we'll put you in touch with our Field Representative Charlie!

- If you're picking up running socially, come give our group runs a try! We run 5k and 10k groups (at a variety of paces) on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
